A balanced facial profile forms the foundation of an attractive looking face. When different facial features are well-proportioned and exist in harmony with each other, the profile is well balanced. Total face evaluation will be performed by the plastic surgeon to determine the facial profile. The surgeon will assess each feature individually as well as in context of the other features.
Rhinoplasty, cheek implants, chin augmentation, or reduction are some of the specific plastic surgery procedures that may be performed to achieve a balanced facial profile. Individuals with this profile will not only enjoy an aesthetically appealing face, but will also find an improvement in their self-image and personal confidence.
Dr. Gary Motykie MD is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facial profile balancing and various other procedures. Patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive facial profile balancing from Dr. Motykie.
Guidelines for Facial Balancing
The cosmetic surgeon will consider certain basic guidelines to determine facial balance and proportion. The nose should lie within parallel lines drawn down from the inside corners of the eyes to the nostrils, when viewed from the front. The base of the nose should appear triangular, and the shape and size of the nostrils should be symmetrical, when viewed from below it.
To evaluate the chin, the surgeon will see whether a vertical line drawn down from the edge of the lower lip is touching the chin. If the tip of the chin is behind the line, it may be necessary to perform chin implants. But if it extends beyond the line, reduction chin surgery may be needed. The surgeon will also assess the shape of the forehead from the facial profile view. If it is long and sloping, it may make the nose look more prominent.
Creating Facial Balance
Nose reshaping surgery and chin implants are two of the key procedures that are usually employed in facial profile balancing. The projection of the nasal tip can be reduced to address an excessively projecting nose, and the dorsal hump can also be revised. Chin can receive more projection when a chin implant is placed around the front part of the mandible.
The nose will appear more understated when the chin is more prominent. Nose and chin symmetry can ensure the right facial balance. Various facial asymmetries can be corrected with the use of longer and wider implants. Custom carving of the implants can sometimes be performed to correct chin asymmetries.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a major procedure for facial profile balancing. It can reduce or augment the size of the nose, reduce a hump, shape the nasal tip or bridge, narrow the nostrils span, or change the angle between the upper lip and the nose.
Mentoplasty
Mentoplasty or chin surgery can be performed to enhance receding chin, mitigate a protruding chin, or redefine the chin as well as neck line. Dr. Gary Motykie MD receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for facial profile balancing.
